Qualitech Computers Help

If you are 1 of the many individuals or businesses that are being affected by the Windows XP expiration, DO NOT PANIC!  Many of us use our computers on a daily basis whether it be at home or at work. But when you get scary warnings about security risks and warnings, panic sets in and chaos breaks out. But we are here to tell you not to panic. Microsoft decided after 12 years that XP support was no longer going to exist. What does this mean? Well, here are some of the important details of what this means for you. If you are still running Windows XP, you will no longer be able to install any new security updates. Technical assistance for Windows XP is no longer available. Microsoft Security Essentials will no longer work on Windows XP. The latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP is Internet Explorer 8, which has many security risks and is not supported by many web sites. New components (printers, scanners, video cards etc.) may not supply drivers or software that will run with Windows XP.

Although we encourage our customers not to panic, it is very important to understand that there are risks with keeping Windows XP as your operating system. Windows XP is a hackers heaven. The lack of security makes it easy to breach and infect a users computer with viruses, malware etc. It is also important to note that running software that is unsupported by the vendor violates a number of regulatory requirements, and you are no longer PCI, HIPAA, GBLA or SOX compliant.

What you need to do: Check to see if your computer hardware is compatible with a newer, supported version of Windows such as Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Also make sure you have enough Memory, Hard Drive space and CPU power to handle a newer Operating System. It is recommended that you have an Intel dual core processor, at least 3GB of RAM, and at least a 160GB Hard Drive. If you meet these requirements, you can simply back up your files and install a new operating system and be current with security standards.

Feel free to give our highly trained staff a call if you have any questions or concerns about Windows XP expiration issues.
